We just finished swapping my E40D, the new tranny is GREAT, we had an issue swaping out the shifting piece,but got it sorted, and new tranny ****s hard and working great.

We replaced the tran's fluid filter and gasket, and i noticed now the pan of tranny fluid is leaking... would it leak if i tightened the bolts to much, as well, if not enough ? I think i might have done them too much, and fear now i will have to take the whole thing down, drain all the fluid again, and RTV the seal, cause it seems like it just wants to drip drip drip. (mabey 1 -2 drips a min)

Any idea's.

Did you replace the Tranny seal. I think there is a seal that would cause the leak or the seal as moved and covered the overflow hole and it is leaking out. I am not sure on the automatics, but my car has a similar problem and that is what I was told. The exact wording will probably be explained better by someone else here. I think they know what I am trying to say.

The gasket will leak if overtightened or not tightened enough. AutoZone sells filter kits with cork gaskets, and Advance sells filter kits with rubber gaskets. I always get the ones with the rubber gasket because they work much better. Cork gaskets are very finicky and are easily screwed up. You can't use RTV on cork, it usually makes it worse. Well, using RTV on them never worked for me and everyone I've talked to said not to do it.

I had my E4od rebuilt and 100,000 miles later it went out. The shop that rebuilt the tranny used too much rtv, some of the rtv came loose and made its up and plugged the tranny filter thus destroying the tranny. I took it to another shop and they said that you do not want to use rtv because of that reason.

The gasket kit that is on there now, is rubber... it came with filter and rubber gasket... I'm going to try and loosen the bolts, see if it helps, im notorious for over tightening bolts =(

Don't loosen the bolts i made that mistake, you have to torque them to what the manual says.

I had the same problem fixed it when I torqued them to specs.

*EDIT* get a torque wrench then losen them up slightly and retorque them.

If the gasket is rubber then check the pan for distortion. Sometimes you have to tap the bolt holes back in because they get distorted from being tightened before.

I Permitected the bottom around the part thats leaking... if that doesn't work, im going to buy like 3 small C Clamps, and just clip it down all around, and premiteck it again ! one of the screw's got over tightened, so its stripped and not holding tension, so c-clamps should pwn it !

It took me a minute to figure out- Permatex. If you don't feel like doing the Heli-Coil then sometimes you can wrap the bolt with teflon tape and it will hold better.
