Default Transmission Identification

I know there is a resource somewhere but I can't find it. I would like to identify the A/T in my 1996 F150 2WD XL 4.9L. The trans model on the tag is: PRA-DB10. I have the O.D. button on the shifter.

Thanks.

You can usually ID the trans from the pan bolt pattern. How many bolts is a start. 4R70W has 14 and IIRC the E40D has 20 (not sure).

Pan bolts is one way like Lobomike said 14 or 20 bolts. The other way is to open your door and look at the trans code on the sticker.
U is 4R70W and E is E4OD

Thanks. I have been curious too. Which transmission is better? Or what the difference between these two?

The E4OD is the heavy duty transmission. The 4R70W is the light duty transmission.
