Transmission, did I kill it?
I was towing my trailer (5000lbs) with my 1995 F150 5.0 Manual trans, and all was well. I had to back into my driveway, which is a sleight incline. I ran the reverse gears a little hard, and got classic white smoke and that lovely smell that only say Transmission.
Its a few days later (this was saturday), and other than some light bumpyness in first and second gears, and residual smells, all seems OK.
In previous experience, with smaller cars, this has lead to either the plate dying or the tranny dying. I still get a little new smell on a drive, but not much and it seems to be getting less and less.
Am I crazy or is it okay? Everything works, and we have been driving it 4 wheel all week due to snowy conditions. Should I check the fluid levels? is there something I should do?

It sounds like you just burned your clutch disc a little. Probably just took a little meat off and scored the clutch disc. Don't press your luck by trying this again. Next time shift your transfer case to 4low, this will cut the gearing speed in half, and hopefully prevent burning the clutch disc.

Good thing I am building a pull through. I dont want to put in back in the driveway again, but we were getting 6" of snow and it had to go SOMEWHERE.
I dont think I shifted into 4 low, I think I was in 2 wheel. Chuckle.
Should still check the fluid though right?

Thanks, I thought it was sealed off and hard to get to, and thats why the residual smell lasts so long, it just takes forever for it to get out of the tranny.
I think the smell is designed to keep me from ever being this stupid again...
