Towing how much have you?
I'm mostly looking to see if what I wanna do with this truck will be fees able with the drivetrain thats in it. 4.9L 2wd 5 speed. I've towed several cars and it does ok but nothing great. I plan on getting a car trailer with trailer brakes and making it a tow vehicle for some extra money. But I found out its only rated to tow around 3k with this setup. What have you guys been able to tow with your straight 6 5 speeds? Also whats the best shift points for towing?

Wats ur gearing that's a big thing. My dad had a 92 f150 s 6 5 speed 4.10 gears. He would still work off the garage he worked at lol . He would pull cars and small trucks home all the time. Ya it's not the best pulling motor out there but he made it work for him. If I was U id try to get the lightest trailer u can find without sacrificing strength. Good luck ps the motor u have is a mule dnt be scared to work it she'll handle it also make sure u have a good hitch setup

Look on the rear axle, one of the bolts should have a tag. My tag says 3L55 so that means I have a 3.55 limited slip. If it just said 3 55 that would be an open rear, 4 10 would be an open 4.10, etc.
That tag *should* be there but sometimes hack mechanic shops don't bother to put them back on when changing the axle lube.

Look for the code under axle, usually 18 or 19, or maybe H19. Whatever the code is on the door tag, you can look it up from there and it will tell you your gear ratio.
Keep in mind that it will be the ratio that was originally installed - that's probably what's still in there but after 20 years you don't know for sure if it's ever been changed.
