timing
after checking my timing i noticed after putting the grey spout piece back in my timing was about 8 ? it was about 12 with it out during check ? it that normal to be that low?

No that is not normal.... With spout out it should drop to base timing...With spout in, the computer should advance the timing.
I have no clue why that it is doing that. MY theory
If you have a 5.0L maybe the knock sensor is retarding the timing?

Eh, something doesn't sound right. The times I've checked timing, it always seemed to advance a bit - 10BTDC with SPOUT out, 14-18BTDC or so with SPOUT back in.
Not knowing your level of expertise, any way it could possibly be 8ATDC SPOUT out, then 12 BTDC with SPOUT in, which would make it right with the spark advancing with SPOUT in?

Have to shut truck off when removing or installing the spout connector and it doesn't take much of a bump to throw timing off when tightening the distributor. Just couple things that came to mind when reading your post.
