Default dash lights not working after radio install.

I have a 91 custom that had the original am radio.replaced with second hand radio. I used the wires from the original radio(speakers, ground, constant 12v,switched 12v) now the dash lights don't work. checked the fuse box and it keeps blowing the 5amp fuse for the dash lights. is my problem that I'm using the original am radio wires and need to run seperate power and ground wires. the dash lights were working before. now I'm trying to figure out what I did.
thanks in advance

You're shorting out the illumination wire. Probably hooked it up wrong or didn't tape it off.

yes only had an am radio, truck was originally from th lax airport.
after blowing more fuses gave up and ditched the original radio wiring.
and now have wired it direct.
