Default Temperature gauge.

Just replaced the head gasket in my 1996 with a 300 straight 6. My temperature gauge hasn't worked since. I replaced the temp sender but it didn't fix things. I was looking around the engine tonight and noticed that at the rear of the engine I forgot to connect a wire. When I ground this wire the gauge goes way past the hot mark. Can't find where this wire goes. Can someone help please!!!

The coolant temperature sending unit is located at the right rear corner of the engine block just below the cylinder head.
