temp sending unit location for gauge
I'm looking for the location of the sending unit for my indash temp gauge. I thought it was the sending unit near the thermostat housing, but thats for the computer(so I'm told). I have a '88 302. Thanks in advance!

the guy from Napa said that was for the computer, it has a 2 prong slide-on clipping connecter, that is near the thermostat housing and the distributor. The Napa guy also said that the sending unit for the gauge may thread into the rear of the right head. It has a small threaded male end for the gauge to connect to. hope this helps clear up my confusion.

Several symptoms could be related
Hello my truck symptoms are:
1. Temperature guage registers low all the time, comes up a bit when I turn the engine off
2. Engine races when I start it. I replaced the air control valve, didn't help. I replace the temp sensor, 2-wire kind. Now I am reading there may be another for the guage?????
3.tested for vacuum leaks, didnt find any.
4. could the PCV valve be stuck open and pulling too much vacuum?
5. change the thermostat, probably did not need it.
Please help if you have some ideas. Every time I take into the dealer it's a big bill and I need to avoid that if possible.
Best Regards,
Doug Jarvis

Ford F150 sensors
First, Thank you 'Just call me Sean'.
I checked with Ford parts today and they showed both sensors in one of their pictures. The EFI sensor is just behind the thermostat and the guage sensor is near the base of the distributor (behind as you are looking from the front, and oriented in verticle position.
As for the "racing engine" condition, I have discovered a paragraph in Chiltons the when the throttle position sensor is not working correctly the engine will have the condition I have described. That one is not cheap at all....
Best to you all
