Stripped threads on thermostat housing
I have a 1988 F-150 with a 5.0 with 193,000 miles on it. I was recently replacing the thermostat and stripped the threads out of the upper bolt hole (not the actual bolt) on the thermostat housing . What is the best way to fix this problem? I've searched the forum and I've seen "heli-coils" mentioned as a solution to similar problems. Should I use something similar? Does anyone know approximately how much I might expect to pay to have it fixed if I don't do it myself?

An option: Tap to next size. Best option: Heli-coil thread insert. Google it. Both require the same amount of elbow grease, but if you heli first & screw it up, you still have the tap to next size option. Use a cutting oil.
