Default E4OD deep and shallow pan??

I have a 93 with a E4OD and i was gonna do a transmission service on it and when I went to purchase a filter kit, they have them for both a shallow pan and a deep pan. I can climb under the truck and look, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Is there any way to figure this out?

Other than pulling the filter and bringing it with you, I don't know. You can buy both and return the one you don't need.

on my 95 4x4 is what the deep pan... but on my 95 2 wheel drive it was a shallow pan.. both were 351w ... but i dont know if the 4x4 was really the only factor in the depth of the pans though...

The E4OD has 2 pan depths. the 4x4 and the 2wd. The 2wd is the shallower of the 2. The filter for the 4x4 will have an extension tube to go deeper into the pan.

you'll be fine with just an external cooler. Be sure to buy the one with the flat style passages, they're more money, but more efficient.

The finned pans are great because they usually have a drain plug. You still have to remove the pan to change the filter but it makes things a lot cleaner.
