x2 if you don't feel like doing it yourself, but this time bring it to a trustworthy Mechanics shop look for ASE mechanic shops and AAA rated ones they usually can be trusted. look for reviews online as well before wasting money on a dishonest mechanic.

TomR,

Thank you Captain Obvious.

I'm trying to narrow down what the problem could be before I take it back to a place and have them tell me it is the ___________ .

I just took it to a shop full of "experts" and they decided it was the air pump - which it wasn't.

The shop I took it to was the highest rated shop in a 15 mile radius on Yelp and was AAA shop.

If by Experts, you mean Automotive Mechanics . They just might know what they are talking about. Remember all the advice you got here, Was based on your description of the noise. They actually heard it. I am not saying they are right,,but...

well they got it wrong so bring it back and tell them to fix it right and get your cash back for something you didn't need. then again they could have fixed something else that you needed too.

I am actually having the same problem on my 93 4x4 4.9. All the u joints are brandy new except for the 2 on the transfer case shaft (because they were still good). Every time I disengage the clutch while moving I get 3 little baby bird squeaks. At idle and sitting still there is no noise. I'm going to investigate further and if I find anything, ill post it as something to think about.
