o ya and since I have had the truck I have taken great care of it, and the guy I bought it from had all the maintenance papers all the way back to 96 when he bought it, the truck went to a ford dealer for every thing, it is not like the truck has been abused.

Bahahahaha! Alright, Im pickin up what your layin down. But what Im trying to say is older vehicles are going to have problems. Some seem to have better luck than others. For example my ole 96 is abused very bad by me and has over 190,000 miles(nothing has been rebuilt) on her and keeps on running(running very well too). I do keep it cleaned up and do very routine maintenance on it. But next week the transmission might take a **** or who knows what else. Just calm down and find a good used rear end and change it out. They are pretty cheap used and they dont take long to swap. These trucks have good rearends in them and there is a reason the rear end went out, whether it was low on fluid or water got in it from bad rear seals, leaking diff gasket or maybe someone got debri in it the last time they changed the fluid. Who knows but good luck and dont give up on her.

Just because he brought it to a Ford dealer does not mean that the mechanics there knew what they were doing. I watched the local dealer spend 4 hours trying to hook the computer up to a 94 Turbo Diesel, this was the IDI engine so it did not have a computer for the engine and was a 5 speed so no computer for the trans. The dealer then tries to charge him for the time spent. This dealer also told me my 83 had to have the entire front axle disassembled to replace the u-joints on the front axle. They were rather upset when I went back out to my truck and in 5 minutes had the inside left yolk out of the diff and on their parts counter without even lifting the front tires.

Most dealers never change the axle lubrication because it is so far out in the service schedule that they never work on a vehicle that requires it.
