Default Speaker size in my '89??

Anyone know the size of the 2 door speakers on a 1989 F150? Also, has anyone added speakers into their extra-cab and if so, what size? Thanks in advance.

be carefull on the doors even though it says 6 1/2 doesnt mean its 6 1/2 !! meaning it wont fit in the indent which will cause it to stick out to much !!

I've got standard mount 2 way 6 1/2 pioneers in the doors of mine. It shouldn't give you any problem as long as the speakers aren't ridiculously deep. However on my truck, the original screw holes in the doors were stripped so I drilled new ones, but this didnt change the stock depth of the speaker, I just turned it a little and relocated the holes.

Excellent, thanks for the help guys. I really need to replace the stockers in mine, so i will search for the slimmest profile 6 1/2 speakers I can find. I bet the connectors will be different so I will probably have to re-wire up to the back of the deck.

You dont have to mess with the rear deck, just cut the plug off of the original speaker connection at the door and use the supplied new connectors that your speakers will come with. And dont worry about going too shallow. As long as you dont get something extra deep you shouldn't have a problem at all. My 89 should be exactly the same, and with regular pioneer 2 ways I have some room to play with. Good luck with it

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have an 89 F150 and have tried two different sets of 6.5 speakers for the door but it doesn't seem to go in the housing of the door at all it just won't go in the recess, there was plenty of space that the magnet was not hitting the door, I saw another user here post that there was fitment issues with the 6.5 inch speakers so is there something special I need to do to get these to fit?

Check out Crutchfield's site. Tons of information there to answer your question.

Speaker size names are NOT standardized. A Kenwood 6.5" speaker is not necessarily the same size as a Kicker 6.5" or a Jensen 6.5". There ARE identically-sized speakers from each brand, but they're not always NAMED the same size. What Kenwood calls 6.5", Jensen might call 5.5". That's why you have to use something like Crutchfield to find the size name in each brand. It's kinda like paint colors - even if you find 2 brands with the exact same shade of blue, they won't necessarily be NAMED the same. Both brands might sell "Royal Blue", but they won't be the same shade.
