spark plug gap
I'm browsing through the spark plugs on rockauto checking out the selection. According to my manual, my '94 5.0L takes spark plugs with gap .044", yet on rockauto most of the plugs for the truck (including all the motorcraft plugs) have .054" gap. the only ones that have .044" are the Bosch. What gives?

Bosch are those special fancy expensive plugs. Arent the twin electrode plugs? go with the motorcraft copper power tip or the autolite power tip plugs. Our engines are not that critical to use fancy plugs, you can still get 50,60,000 miled or so on reg plugs as long as the electrodes are good and are tight in the body, our pont grand prix has regular ac plugs that have about 70,000 on them, I just glass bead them and regap, still good.

Under your hood is an emissions sticker with a vacuum hose diagram. It should also have some other useful info specific to your truck, such as spark plug gap. I'd agree that .044 is more like it.
Even is you get .054 gapped plugs, you can gap them yourself with a $1 gap guage available at the parts store counter.

Seems like this has come up before - what changed around 91-93? Did they change to roller motors in 92? Do those run a wider gap?
Heck if I know - seems like the sticker is the best reference, and hope the hood and motor are both original to the same truck!

I agree - especially over time, they're gonna change a bit anyway.
But.... Exec is a stickler for detail - he's gonna have those boogers perfect! (not being mean - that's a compliment!)

rofl tomorrow I'm going to take a pic of how I fixed my radiator overflow/windshield washer fluid tank... that'll put to rest all these rumors about how I only do it by the book :P I'm just saying my Chilton's manual says .044 and I wasn't sure if the gap was something I could modify on the plugs after I buy them. with all the horror stories about spark plugs in these trucks that float around on this forum, how can anyone blame me for being careful?
