Spark plug gap
got new plugs at autozone figured it was about time, they told me the gap was for .054, i thought that with the timing bump you stretched them out to .054, if thats stock what should they be stretched to?

Take a peek under your hood. There should be a white sticker that will tell you what the "stock" plug gap should be. It seems as though, that MAP trucks used a .044 gap while MAF trucks used .054 gap. Check your sticker to be sure. You would only increase the gap or side gap if you have upgraded your ignition system. Take it from me, advancing timing or mucking around with your plug gap with a 'stock' ignition system is asking for trouble.
EDIT: my truck calls for a .054 gap "stock". I've side gapped my copper cores to .060. That's only a .006 increase in gap over stock but, the side gapping is what makes it work with my KILLER IGNITION SYSTEM! LMAO!

At a certain year, even though All other component part #'s remain exactly the same. Coil, distributor, even spark plug, the gap size changes from .044 to .054.
I've asked a lot of people, parts store & dealer counter persons, posted it on 4 different Ford Forums, even asked Ford mechanics. Nada! Plug manufacturers don't agree either!
The best reference is the permanent sticker under your hood. If your's is gone, find someone w/ same year & engine that still has their permanent stick attached. Without that, go w/ MOTORCRAFT references. on 302's I think the gap switch comes at 90'. Check for differences between copper cores & double Plats too!

well i'm not seeing anything about spark plug gap on my stickers.i checked the gap for a 93 and it said the same of .054, when i put the coil dist. cap rotor button coil, plug wires and plugs i gapped them to .054 cause that's what i was going by on the bump thread, HA. i don't have a dremel but i really want to sidegap them, i was just curious as to what i should gap them out since it's supposed to be .054 should i try for .060?
