Angry No starting...

Alright, Old reliable decided that starting is no longer on it's priority list. Cranks fine, and is getting fuel (I can smell it). But I have no spark. 1st thoughts led me to think it was the ignition coil, autozone checked it, said it was in bad shape and now its replaced. Truck still doesnt start. At the wires going into the coil the red is hot at key on, the green is never hot, don't know if this has anything to do with it. Thanks, for the help, dont like being transportless.

PS im going to check codes now.

Check the engine grounding. Try to read the codes - it may be some position sensor or EEC. Also test ignition control module.

First suggest to inspect the cap and rotor for cracks or excessive corrosion, plug wires - especially the coil wire, etc. Just a general look-see for anything that doesn't look right.

Then, suggest to test the TFI module on the exterior base of the distributor, then test the stator pick-up inside the distributor. A shop manual, such as Chilton's or Haynes, will have these procedures, will also need a multi-meter. Can also test the coil to see if you were given a good one - few things are more frustrating than a bad-out-of-the-box part. Also, AutoZone can test the TFI module for you, as another resource.

In the world of the more extreme and less likely stuff - perhaps bump the engine to make sure the distributor shaft is turning.

While you're at it, may as well pull a plug or two to see if any work is needed there - but doubt that plugs would cause an immediate no-start condition.

Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find.

Engine is throwin code 23, TPS... dont think that has anything to do with it, and has had that code before. Distributor is all fine and dandy from what I can see. Was going to have the TFI tested but cant figure out how to get it off, the bolts are inset and nearly impossible to reach with my tools. will look into my haynes bible and see what I an do about testing it... Ill get back to you.

You need a special tool to remove the TFI, available at AutoZone. It's an ignition module removal tool. It's just a **** with a tiny socket on the end. A regular socket doesn't work, it won't fit into the recesses in the module. I would know, I had to buy one.

Alrighty, It was the blasted TFI. After 5 bucks for the tools and 40 bucks for the module and 2 trips to advance im running strong. Thanks for the help folks.
