I'm going to agree with Chris, if the guy wants to disconnect it, it is his prerogative. Allot of off roaders disconnect certain safety features since they can be hindrances on the trail. I have bypassed crap on my atv such as diff lock rev limiters and reverse rev limiters and diff lock blocks above certain speeds. If he is responsible for his ride and doesn't have kids that can get into his truck, that's his business.

The other half of this is, allot of you guys delete the smog pumps, cats, downgrade to non DOT approved lighting that blinds other drivers and some of you are all for it. It's very hypocritical. I'm the first to bitch about the aftermarket lighting being used on the highway and I have very valid reasons for my rants. However, I'v seen hundreds of dumb *** folk with the door of their truck open while off roading and a few fall right out while the truck takes off. Using your brains is as much a preventative as the shift lock.

I am beginning to think I am the only one on here that is old enough to have driven vehicles without all those idiot proof devices and I do not like them,my fleet includes a 37 Chevy p/u,1955 Ford convertible,1965 custom 500 and my 1966 Ford truck which have none of that crap. Even my 88 bronco and 89 crown vic do not have that stupid shift lock and after driving old vehicles since I turned 16 somehow managed to survive to be 54 and also survived a bad wreck in a 71 Olds that hit a tree and it did not have airbags, since I am having a hard time finding a E4OD trans for the 95 I am thinking about changing it to a 5 speed so that column will be changed. 2 of those vehicles did not come from the factory with seat belts and guess what they are not getting them.

Found a trans so after its in the shift lock will be disabled in the future, got too much stuff to do to mess with it right now but its going to be a when I get bored project. I know the younger crowd has grown up with all this crap the manufactures were forced to install because of the idiots that are lawyer happy but I started driving when the vehicles had none of this stuff and can live with out it and I actually feel safer without all that crap since I have full control with the vehicle.

I'd disagree with you on the seatbelts though Jeff. They just make sense.

If I was wearing seat belts in the accident I was in I probably would have been decapitated from the hood coming through the windshield, when we hit the tree I was forced down towards the driver and missed the hood so I really do not like seat belts. If vehicle has them I will wear them because I am forced to but I will not install them on my vehicles that did not come with them from the factory,I do not have any children so there will never be any small grand children in my life where I would have to install them. I survived riding in 50s cars when I was small so I do not see the big deal.

I don't like wearing a seatbelt either..........but 20 years in EMS and I can say that I've never seen a single fatality from a seatbelt. I've also never seen a hood come through the windshield as described. Had to have been a one in a million occurrence. I've seen every kind of vehicle vs. a tree(s) and seatbelts just work! I actually got to see a nissan pick up recently vs. a tree and the cab literally separated from the chassis and the driver stayed secure in his seat belted in. The driver walked away without a scratch thanks to the break away. The frame was wrapped around the tree and the cab laid next to the tree. Don't know if it was intended to do so or not, but it worked. The one safety feature that I do push is seatbelts. Please take it from somewhat of a professional witness!

I can live with seat belts but most of my vehicles that do have them only have lap belts which seem useless to me,I am 54 and have been driving since 1977 and 75 percent of the time in pre 70s vehicles and I am still here so to me its not the end of the world to have a vehicle without all that government mandated safety stuff on. I picked up a trans today and after I get the truck on the road I will look into that shift lock and see if its worth messing with.

After I get the rear spring brackets replaced I am going to look into getting rid of the shift lock,I just recently got it running good and could not believe a bad speedometer could cause a stumble in the motor right after it starts to move and it took me awhile to figure that one out. For those of you who do not live where it snows heavy a vehicle that has the shift lock makes it harder to rock it out by going from forward to reverse and can loose the momentum by having to apply the brakes to get the shifter to move,it will be gone by winter.
