Shift Kit?

Shift kits are basically modifications with the valve body. If your trans is a higher mileage original unit, you might want to reconsider making shift point mods to a stock transmission....especially with you having a more powerful engine on the horizon.

Good point... I guess I shouldve mentioned that I also plan on saving to get the trans rebuilt as well as soon as the engine is bought (which is in the near future) after that is when I'd love to install the shift kit.

don't mess with your tranny unless you know what your doing one mistake and your screwed.
shift kits reduce slipping when shifting so your tranny runs cooler (you install them in the valve body). I had one in an old 6 cylinder chevy van the PO installed it to pull a boat, it would bark the tires when it shifted to 2nd gear or fish tail in the rain. (fun as hell, almost made up for the embarrassment of driving a chevy van lol)

Haha, sounds like fun. I hope I can bark on the 1-2 shift. I found out that the transgo aod hp kit includes parts that will raise the shift points. Does anyone know where the rev limiter is on these trucks? I never wanted to rev my old engine high enough to find out. I'm guessing 5500 to 6000?

Maybe to many trucks?

actually the van I was talking about was a 1970 G15 shorty with a turbo 350, it replaced a 1983 G20 I had prior with a 350/700-r (went out one morning to go to work and it wouldn't move, tranny failed with no warning) all I meant about "don't mess with your tranny" is be damn sure you research before you mess with it, speaking from experience.
I don't hate chevys but I'll pick a Ford over one any day.The 70 had a 250 inline, it lost the #6 cylinder one day on the freeway. they have a gear driven cam you can't hear spark knock, it ended up eating a hole in the piston, fun as hell to drive until then.
I know you can get different levels of shift kits from mild to break your neck, as far as I know the only issue with the aggressive kits is they eat U-joints. (B&M is or was top of the line at least for hot rods)
just woke up I hope this makes sense.
oh one more thing the 80's G20's have a 12+ foot positive battery cable routed along the frame next to the brake line, mine rubbed the brake line until it shorted out killing the engine and burned a hole in it (as in no brakes), that wasn't fun going down a hill doing 50......
my dislike for chevy's isn't based on brand loyalty lol.
