Replacing Rear Window

Replacing Rear Window
Got a sliding rear window from a salvage yard ($35 I think) to replace my one-piece one. Anybody have any experience with this. Any special tools useful or required?
Thanks,

Might want to get a new seal for the window, but if it's in good shape you might be able to get it out without damaging it. Get it real wet with soapy water and push the window out from the inside. Be careful in case the window shatters, wear safety goggles, and if it doesn't break you might want someone outside to catch it, also with goggles on. Put the seal on the new window and put a piece of rope in the cab to seal channel in the seal. It can't be too thick but it needs to be strong. Put the bottom of the seal channel into the cab as it is when installed with the ends of the rope hanging out in the inside, and have someone push the window tightly against the cab. Slowly pull the rope out from the inside which will pull the seal over the flange of the cab.

If by seal you mean the rubber gasket that surrounds the window, the new one had one that looks like it's in good shape. Can you be more specific about the rope thing? I can't picture what you're saying, but it sounds like a neat trick.
Thanks for the help; I appreciate it.

I think that by the seal Sean really means what you've said. You'll need a nylon or silk rope (something like a parachute cord) - it must me strong and slippery. It must be about 4 mm thick. Put a seal on the window and take a look at it's cab side. There's a channel as Sean called it - it's a place for the flange of the cab. Take a rope and put it into this channel all around the seal, starting at the middle of bottom. When done, you should have both ends of rope hanging down of the seal and they must be al least 1 foot long each. It's better to have them overlaying each other inside that channel for 10" length. Have someone put a window against it's position from the outside. Have both ends of rope inside the cab. Start installing the window from the buttom. Make sure that the bottom of seal is at it's position. Your helper should start pushing the window towards the cab. Start pulling out the rope by any of it's ends. Your helper should watch for the window not to move while he's pushing it. Pull the rope out slowly, try to keep it at 90° angle.

Thanks, Fast. I found a Web site that illustrates the process quite clearly. It's:

MY 2001 f150 SCREW is totally diferrent. Mine is just held in with nothing but screws and of course whatever you use to seal it to the metal. Getting ready to pull mine off and replace my rear window molding. I had the usual leak like everyone else. I found it and fixed it. But cracked my molding in the process. Had to find another. Thank god for u pull it yards. Got one for $10 compared to $300 from stealership.
