Replacing manual locking hubs
I was speaking with someone about the "squealing" noise that my truck makes. He suggested replacing the manual hubs on the front axle as a
possible solution. I searched for manual hubs on eBay and on Google.
I found the Warn site and they sell replacement hubs and a hub servicing
kit. The hubs cost $60+ and the servicing kit costs $21+.
Can anyone tell me if it is worth the effort to go for the servicing kit? Or
should I just get the replacement hubs?
What is the intended purpose of the servicing kit? The Warn site gave
no real explanation as to what the servicing kit would accomplish or
what parts were included.
Thanks!

Not sure what would be squealing in the hubs - everything rotates at wheel speed.
I suspect the service kit has only seals, retaining rings, o-rings and the like. Consumable stuff one might need when repacking the wheel bearings or the like.
Sure you don't have a brake lining issue?

The noise does not go away when the brakes are applied.
The noise is not present all the time either. It comes and goes.
Right now it is hardly audible, but last week it was really loud.

Just a WAG - try removing the hub guts, putting the cap back on, and seeing if the squeal persists.
The only thing I can think of that shouldn't be rotating would be the axle shaft, so having a hard time visualizing what in the hub could be squealing.
Any debris buildup in the caliper? Or between the caliper and the wheel? --Just doing some WAGging here - I always hate to replace parts only to find those parts weren't the problem.

I don't like replacing parts that don't need it either, but the noise can be very annoying! As stated in my other thread, it has been to the shop twice. They pulled all 4 wheels and nothing is visually out of order or broken. I didn't want to keep throwing money in their pockets either, so I figure I may have to drive until it becomes obvious where the problem is...
