Default Replace Oil Pump

When replacing the oil pump on a 1996 4.9L, should I also replace the pickup? It didn't fail, I'm just replacing the pump while I have the pan off.

Might as well replace the pickup tube also since you're already there.

Is it practical to try and clean it out? It's nothing mechanical, just a metal tube and filter, right?

If there's no real junk in the tube and the screen is ok there's no reason to replace it if you don't want to. Just clean it out real well. It's just something I normally replace if I'm there already.
