Default Will stock fuel injection work with a stroker kit???

Next year I plan on rebuilding my 96 5.8, its been doing great but with 190,000 on it I dont want to press my luck forever. My question is can I put a stroker kit in it and still keep the fuel injection, sensors, etc? Since Im building it I thought I would try to get some more torque while I was at it. From what I understand that the stroker kit can give alot of torque depending on the kit. Ive never tried to do any modifications in the past rebuilding the couple that Ive done, just straight up rebuilds. I would like to go ahead and start buying parts a little at a time but Im not sure what direction to head. If youve done this before and have some good advice on what size I should get the bore machined to or any good ideas to go with, that would be great. I dont have a clue about doing any mods whatsoever to the engine so Thankyou for any help or info that you can spare.

I've got experience with alot of the performance stuff. It really depends on what size stroker kit you go with, there are options there. I would say that you will need to increase your injector size, stock are 19lbs, i'd say 24lbs will work. IF you don't mind, whats your budget? i'll help you maximize your money for performane. But when you decide to go stroker your opening up so many options

As far as over boring it depends on how long you think you will have the truck. If you went the max of .060 over then you would need a new block for the next rebuild since it's better to rebore when installing new rings. If you went .030 over then you still have 3 more times to rebore before needing a new block.

I would like to keep the total for the parts under 4,000 for the rebuild. I dont have a money tree(my wife went back to college and its killin my work on the truck stash) so Im going to have to pace myself buyin the parts. I remember reading a thread a while back about upsizing injectors and they acted like you would have to change the PCM since it controls the injectors. Like I said I dont have a clue and Im definitely not doubting your advice, Im just trying to figure all this mess out. Im willing to spend some extra to make all this right. Whatever I do, I would like to keep the motor dependable enough for everyday drive. Thank you for the reply.

I am planning on keeping the truck for years to come so it would probably be best that I just go .030 over. I appreciate the advice Sean.

Well first off when you get it out and tare it down save everything until your done. Machine work prices are gonna vary depending on where you go. I would reccommend that you have the block line honed, bored .030 over w/ torque plates, finish honed with the pistons you are going to use and then hot tanked. in my experiance this should run you around $500. i found some pretty good stroker kits for just over 1k. I recommend the 393.

clicked the wrong button and posted to soon, anywayz with that short block, i'd use a b303 for racing cam and lifters ($305), new melling pump and screen ($60) Also some arp main bolts ($30) so you should have around $1900 in the short block. I'd use some ford racing turbo swirl aluminum cyl heads($1,200), nothing to fancy, they use pedistal mount rockers just like from the factory so you don't have to worry about adjusting stud mounts. but i'd use the ford racing rockers ($330) 1.6 ratio. Throw some new push rods in there as well, ford racing's got them for ($40) and some arp head bolts to keep them things secure($60) So now your looking at a pretty nice long block for around ($3,530), now here's where you can spend alittle more or keep your budget. Edelbrock has got a real nice manifold designed just for our trucks (i've got one) but there $589. Also a twin 61mm throttle body verses your stock 52mm its ($350) (also i could help you out there) you can run the stockers if you'd like. IF you run the heads with the manifold, you might want to step up to 30lb injectors because your going to be lookin at around 400hp. You need the injectors to match the mass air meter. you can find these matched components on ebay alot because people upgrade so much. Finally no matter what you need to save $400 and find a local superchips custom tuning center and have your truck dyno tuned. They will build you a chip with 4 power levels and one stock. They will match all your components with the computer make sure sure engine has plenty of fuel across the entire rpm range. This is the key to a great running truck. theres still more we can talk about, and questions just let me know

I sure appreciate man, this will definetly get me headed in the right direction. I will start pickin up parts weekly hopefully getting to start next week. Im going to get all the main parts bought up and then Im sure I will be lookin for the extras you mentioned and I will probably be gettin the 30lb injectors also. Buddy, this is alot help and Thank you again, I will post my progress with pictures when I start tearin her down and buildin her up.

i believe the stroker kit i found was at fordstrokers.com and it was the middle of the road kit, had forged pistons, i-beam rods, crank, bearings and i believe the rings are included as well. If you want to save alittle money you might want to look for a used set of heads, just have them milled flat, hot tanked, and maybe change the springs depending on the mileage. get all the stuff for your bottom end. when you get that thing back from the machine shop, throw some paint on the block while its perfectly clean, take your time masking and it will make a big difference, take alook at the stroker i built in my profile, that pic has also go the edelbrock intake on it.
