Releasing the Tensioner Pulley - 1992 F150 5.8L
Time to change the alternator, but I have to get that serpentine belt off first. On a lot of cars I see a place where a 3/8" socket will go directly in and turns to release the tension, but I'm not seeing that on my F150. I tried putting a socket on the bolt in the middle of the tensioner spring, but I just seemed to be loosening the bolt. I stopped before I launched something into the air (or into me ). How do I get that belt off?

I am suprised there is not a place for a ratchet. I have used a pry bar before, or a crow bar will work. Get the bent end behind the pulley enough to hold and pull back releasing the tension.

Thanks!
Good pic. That was rather easy. I had though of trying that, but after the bolt on the spring started coming out, I was hesitant to try the one on the pulley.
Alternator is off, so I'll get it tested tomorrow. I'm 90% sure that's the problem. Gauge stays below the N in Normal and the red battery light is on constantly.

Speaking of tensioner pulley's, I just replaced mine today. Piece of cake. I also replaced the idler pulley while I was there. I never realized just how noisy they can be when they're going bad.

I hate to ask what equipment you're running that would require 3 3G alts...
EDIT: my bad, I see you only have 2 3Gs, and one stock 2G! LOL!
