Default 96 5.0L automatic transmission additive?

Was reading some where that in the automatic transmission that your supposed to add a litre of some additive to the trans fluid on the automatic trans. I talked to ford and they said mercon V has it in it but mine is filled with just standard mercon. Do I have to add the additive? Or is just plain mercon ok. I ask mainly because I popped a pump seal on the trans and don't want it to happen over some additive thanks.

Never heard of adding anything other than the approved fluid except for the aftermarket miracle-in-a-bottle for ailing transmissions.

I have the same truck with a bad shutter my transmission repair man who is also a very good friend suggested doctor trannies shutter fix you can get it at oreillys it helps great took the shutter away. I replace the torque over because of a bad front seal leak since we had to pull the torque converter anyway. my friend said that is the only additive that he has ever seen work.

Better throw some Lucas in it. Seals don't pop out for no reason.

If my memory is correct mercon v has a friction modifier in it that straight mercon dosen't. I've heard of a couple of transmission shops that put limited slip additive in the tranny for the shudder. If seals are popping out sounds to me like the tranny isn't venting

Its possible that mercon V is backwards compatible and you'll be able to use it, but i would check on that first

You can use V in III but not III in V.

Ya the seal popped out because the vpc solenoid in the tranny clogged up and wouldn't vent . So I replaced all the seals, filter and the solenoid.
