Rear Differential Change Fluid now Growl
Well maybe I should have left well enough alone. My 93 F150 302 4x4 has 125k, so I've been little by little getting it in better shape. Last week I did plugs, wire, rotor, cap; then changed the read diff fluid.
I took the cover off, drained the fluid, and refilled with Valvoline synthetic 75-90 per NAPA advice, adding a friction modifier. While the cover was off I looked and thought everything was where is should be, and only a little bit of metal shavings were on the magnetic plug.
Everything sounds fine driving at city speed, but when I get up to highway speed, and then decelerate, I am getting a distinctive growl, most notable from 60 - 50mph. The growl occurs whether the tranny is in drive or neutral, and whether 4x4 is engaged or not.
There are no noises when turning corners.
Any advice?
Thank you, Chuck
