Re gear and locker
My truck is a 95 f150 4x4 with a 5.8w motor e40d tranny and limited slip 8.8 inch rear running 3.55's and 35" tires. I am going to start my re gear here soon while im out for spring break. Im going with at least 4.11's possibly 4.56's. The biggest tires that will ever go on are 35's so theres that. I also want to put in a locker to replace my posi traction. My question is could i just do the regear now and later on put in the locker or is that something that should go in at the same time. Also if anybody has tips or helpful info on which locker i should get or what a reputable name of ring and pinion gears are then please point me that way. I will be doing the work in my shop, and not paying someone to do it so dont worry about labor.

You can do the locker at a later time. But, there's no reason not to do them at the same time.
For instance, and I'll say that this doesn't happen very often but I have seen it happen a few times.
We changed out a set of gears in a truck. Then a month or two later the guy came back and wanted a tlok unit put in. The ring gear was transferred to the new carrier, new carrier bearings and races were put in, and all shims put right back where they were, and the pinion to ring gear contact checked. All was fine. But after a week or two the gears developed a whine.
He came back and we pulled the carrier out, the pinion gear out, and installed another new crush sleeve. We set the pinion depth again and checked the contact patch. Everything was good and the whine was gone from then on.
So if you do them at 2 different times be prepared to possibly have to do the entire job a 3rd time if it starts to whine.

I have the same engine , tranny and 35s now in my f150 and I put a new trak-lok in the rear with 4.56s along with new 1541 axle shafts. In the front I got rid of the open diff and put in a trak-lok. Gears are Yukon but might as well wait and have it all done at once.

how does your truck perform with the 4.56's? Is it faster? More responsive? Also what speed do you top out at?
