Default r12 to r134a conversion

Has anyone tried to do this and actually worked without changing everything? I know there is a retrofit kit where you get a fitting from r12 on truck to r134a hose and some r134a. With 90 degrees and 200% humidity starting to creep here into Jersey, I would like to get the thing going. Thanks.

It will work for maybe a season, then you will have to replace all the aluminum along with all the seals. The old style oil is incompatible with the r134a creating a corrosive substance that will eat away at the aluminum.

Thanks. I work with someone with a license. I will see if I could get some r12 from him.

r12 is liquid gold nowadays. easier to look for R409A, supposed to be the drop-in replacement for R12. No need to change oil or o-rings.

I have tons of various refrigerants at work, but the only R12 i've seen was in an old rusted 30# cylinder that was reclaimed from a plant from a decade ago.
