Default Quick coolant question (water pump)

If the coolant in the lower rad hose is cool when the rest is hot does that mean the pump is bad?

Had a severe leak from around one of the bolts of the WP and grabbed new gaskets, as I'm disconnecting the hoses they are all very warm until I hit the big lower rad hose, damn near Ice Cold in comparison.

bottom hose is after going through the rad, so it should be much cooler theoretically. pumps don't usually go "bad", they're too simple to break - what usually happens to them is the bearing wears out or they start to leak.
Upper rad hose will get hot even if the thermostat isn't open yet (heat transfer), but the lower won't.
Don't know how long you ran it before feeling all the hoses so hard to tell you much for sure.
But all the work to change water pump gaskets, I'd be doing the pump while I was in there. But that's just me - I really hate doing anything twice.

The lower hose should be cooler, BUT, if there's a major difference the radiator might have a blockage.

Decided to just buy a new pump after I got the old one out, it was hard to turn and had plenty of buildup in it.

Came across another problem though, the bottom hose of the WP (on the side with two) that runs to a bent metal tube (with fitting) that's mounted to the alernator and runs to the firewall, that hose was toast. Problem: parts stores didn't have one, couldn't figure out what it's even called. Gonna swing by the Ford dealership tomorrow and wanted to at least know what to call it. Had to cut the end with the fitting off and clamp a hose just to limp through until I can get a new one.

Yeah, flushed the radiator for 10 min with brown specks constantly coming out of lower rad hose. Also flushed the two hoses going to the firewall until they ran clear. I'm guessing it's been a while since that had been done, hopefully the rad is still mostly open.
