Default question about valve cover gasket.

I have a leaky gasket . My question is, is the valve cover seat flat or does it have a recess that would make me purchase a gasket. I am a very firm believer in rtv sealant, especially over the cork style gaskets and the nice rubber gaskets are more expensive than a tube of rtv. but i just want to make sure its not like my wifes car and recessed. I plan to use rtv on valve covers and the intake. so any one on here that has tackled this job with an answer would be much appreciated... as always thanks guys...

well me too... b ut last time i assumed someting i looked like a bigger @$$ then asking a "dumb" question lol. if your working on any engine for that matter your valve cover should be recessed to accept a gasket. No gasket valve cover gasket = oil leak. Read Drbowties recent thread with his 300-6

I use Felpro rubber gaskets were i can. In my opinion RTV looks tacky use less its really called for. Too me ill spend the extra few bucks and buy the felpro gaskets. cheap cork gasket + tube of RTV + couch cushion change = felpro gasket..... thats just me tho.

I use it on water neck gaskets a thin layer and it holds up for that. I havent used it on valve cover gaskets.

Use it in the corners of Ur lower intake... And the water pump just to help with the gasket moving...
