Default programmer or chip or cam???

last night i posted a thread asking opinions on my choice of cam. Well that cams not guna work so i have decided to ask "has anyone tried using a chip or programmer on something like my 1987 f150 5.0 EFI", and if so how do they work and witch one worked the best. Please feel free to be blunt.
or is there a computer compatible cam out there for cheep. Well to be honest like me! I dnt have a big buget. I am just trying to add a little kick to my truck.

The ob1 system is hard to get a good programmer for. And chips dont do anything but make it run rich. Are you looking for power or mpg?

Cam a chip would do about as much good as a throttle body spacer haha

If we haven t scared him off, theres a link to some compatable cams in his other thread.
If your down on cash, a carb swap might be a good tactic, as could a 5speed swap, not much more expensive than a converter and tranny rebuild. You probably got a crazy uncle with an old holley four barrel, and there are a ton of good intakes around the country for cheap.

My truck is efi no carbs here. I heard all the chips were crap, as well as spacers and CAI's. I just tought i would ask.... so i guess im saving up for my $500.00 cam.

for my 4.9l
comp cams would grind me a custom cam to my specs, and send me everything in this picture for 299!! go on their web site see what they have.

Thats 30 bucks cheaper than the crane i found, plus the springs are cheaper for the lunati. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-444232
