Default problems when trying to go into 4 wheel drive

i got a 90 f150 with a straight 6 and a 5 speed 4x4. whenever i put it in 4 wheel and try to back up it sounds like sumthing is getting in a big bind any help wuld b great thanks

check your u-joints.....

Those twin traction beam front ends have a tendensy to leak all the oil out of the diff. I had it happen to me and it burned up the bearings and made a griding and popping noise out of the diff.
