positive battery connection smoking
ok so had some problems with the truck randomly finding it difficult to start. sounds kinda like the batt is low. wasnt sure what it could be so slowly been changing parts. Ive made it to changing my starter selanoid so i did and the great guy at the parts store told me to connect the 4th prong on the bottom to ground so i did. and the truck continued to engage the starter when i let of the key and even when i took the key out so i disconected the batt. removed the wire i just put on tried to start it again and now there is smoke at the positive terminal any help ??? please

Any inscription on the solenoid next to the terminals? I'm thinking you bought a universal model, that would have worked if wires were connected correctly to begin with, but is probably toast now. Mine had a S-W stamped next to the correct terminal. I think the original hard start problem was a poor hot &/or ground connection to begin with. After elimination of these potential reasons, having the Battery "LOAD" tested & checking alternator output are the next steps.

It's a universal solenoid, older vehicles used the other terminal. The one with the S is the start terminal, the one you need to use. The other terminal has an R for run, which is why the starter continued cranking. It gets battery voltage after the vehicle has been cranked to power other items.
My smoking positive problems have been poor connections.
