And just to be sure, you're positive you didn't blow a fuse and the bulbs are good right ? It's just worth a mention is all.

I'd start looking for power to the brown wire at the h/l switch and work my way out from there.
If it was in my driveway, I'd have it sorted pretty quick, but Texas is a long way away.
Just study the wiring diagram and follow the power with your test light.

Found this on a forum from 2004, the guy had wired his new radio into the brake lights and they no longer worked.
His question was--- "am going to put in a Kenwood Cd Player and I need to Find the Corrodid Brake Light Wire to get brake ligths working again."
Reply on the thread was---

Did you know that you can get a plug that goes from your cd player to your truck plug? Walmart has a lot of different ones. Did some one cut off the plugs?
You checked your bulbs and are they the right ones, turn sigs works? back up lights work? Do the lights come on with hazzards? The wires are for direct stop lights, pass. side ORG-LT-BLU AND BRN, and drivers side BRN,BRN and LT-GRN-ORG. Black is ground for both. Truck plug for Radio has red, yel-blk,lt green-yel,org-blk,lt blue-red. Looks like Red is ground ,power is yel-blk,memery is Llt grn-yel,Lcd power is org-blk and illum light is Lt blu-red.

A trip to the stereo installer could be easiest way to get the wire harness knowledge you need or a installer may chime in for you have probably twisted the wrong pair of wires and this may lead to smoke in the cab if you continue. Continuing to believe you did your install properly is probably the wrong method to search out your problem. This sort of thing happens all the time for guys that do remote starts also as it usually ends up a bad ground situation with the rear lights on these old vehicles.

Here is the latest update,i checked for power and ground with a test light yesterday, i have it at the switch, the fuse box, and all sockets. It cant be the radio because I bought the adapter pigtail that you splice into the radio itself, therefore I didn't modify the actual truck wiring,I'm able to replug in the stock radio, (which I did) only thing it may be I'm assuming is a relay? But my truck doesn't have them labled or in any sort of "box". There is only 3 from what I can tell. 2 under the hood, and one in the glove box area. The one in the glove box is a 3 prong relay, the 2 under the hood is located on the driver side,on the wheel well with the rest of the wiring. They are 5 prongs. Any idea on which one would be the dimmer relay? I know ones probally fuel pump, but the other two I have no idea. I know the solenoid by the batt is for the starter, other than that idk.

Possibly switch them, I have done that on autos to put able to start up back. Also grounds back thru turn signal on column to gem I believe. 3 prong would be flashers/turn signals. Since you have power to the tail lights receptacles a grounded jumper should light them up.

If you have power at the sockets with say just the park lights on, it's not a relay or a switch or anything like that. Power is getting where it's supposed to - the socket.
Why don't the lights light up ? 1)- the sockets are screwed, 2)- there's no way for the current to return to ground from the socket, or 3)- The bulbs are wrong for the socket or the bulbs are junk.
If you have power to the socket all it has to do is go through the light bulb and back to ground and the light will light up. It sounds like power is getting to where it's supposed to, it's just not completing the circuit.
You did say you bought all new bulbs I think - could that possibly be a problem ?

My '06 XLT drivers door electrics is completely dead. all circuits. except speaker and remote door lock. everything else is inoperative. Any ideas. where can i get wiring schematics to try and figure this out. None of the windows are working. And the radio is staying on with the door open.

It sucks putting on new parts that don't work, but I had a feeling it was in the headlight switch.

That it does, specially when your working in circles because you changed everything and checked it all once before. I only found it because I decided today to start completely over like I hadn't checked anything. It would sometimes show power to the wires then you check it again, and nothing, took it back to oreilys and swapped it out,now everything is working finally lol what a headache this job was.
