Only got around 2 gallons from draining the radiator...
Hello forum. I just thought I'd ask to see if this is normal or not. I recently did a heater core job on my truck, and in the process I drained the coolant from the radiator petcock into a 5 gallon bucket. I removed the radiator cap first. The thing is, I only got maybe 2 gallons of coolant out that way. In the owner's manual, it says the engine holds 4.8 gallons of coolant. Where's the rest of the coolant? Is there really another 2.5 to 3 gallons in the engine block?

I don't think any leaked out, because I was running the truck a lot in 100 degree weather, and didn't experience any overheating issues. Also my resevoir was at the correct level the whole time too.

See if you have a "weep" hole around the water pump and timing cover mine did this would leak water and resivor be full my timing chain cover was leaking on the drivers side.
I was also in 100+ weather without overheating.
