Default Oil leak

bout a month ago I rotated all my tires, I put the truck on 4 jack stands I inspected the brakes while the tires were off. then noticed it started leaking oil thought it was no big deal just have to watch the oil level. came out this morning and all the oil that could of possibly been in the oil pan is on the ground now. the drain plug is tight. what could cause this problem?

Well, "all the oil that could of [sic] possibly been in the oil pan" isn't just crawling up over the oil pan edge, so if the drain plug is tight, the oil pan is cracked. Either that or you have a leak so bad, you ran the truck without oil for a bit and didn't even know it.

Add some more and see where it's coming out at.

Go to the car wash (or use your own hose if you have one with goot pressure and a spray nozzle) and clean off the lower half of the engine as best you can, taking care not to spray anything electrical or your air intake.

Drive around for a bit, then let it sit for a while and have a careful look over the engine. You should be able to identify where the oil is coming from.

Likely suspects imo: oil pan gasket, rear main seal

only problem it's my sons project truck.. he's almost 16 and I want him to learn how to fix this kinda stuff and I thought after 220k on it a new pan wouldn't hurt. the truck has no brake lines at the moment and the tire has the steel cords sticking out

the first step is always to identify where the leak is coming from. if you can't get out to a car wash, a can of engine degreaser may be helpful.

If the truck wasn't run and the oil leaked out, has to be coming from drain plug or the pan
Edit. So I agree with previous posters.

Didn't accidentally put the jack under the pan to lift it did you ? That would make a weak pan (they rust) start to leak all of a sudden.
Just send your son under there with some rags to wipe off all the oil, then add some and watch where it leaks from.

found the problem, went home on my lunch break and crawled under there and on the opposite side of the drain plug it had a weak spot I applied pressure around it and it started leaking whatever was left in the pan. thanks for everyone's help!
