Default Engine noise possibly exhaust

92 F-150 5.0 automatic 4x4; 189K miles; runs good, just recently started hearing a banging noise when started and running, intermittent, thought it was loose exhaust got underneath all is tight; had truck running while underneath and swear noise was coming from oil pan but I think its from where exhaust from right/left connect before catalytic converter. Could it be big piece of carbon bouncing around exhaust pipe or catalytic converter problem? Any ideas. Ralph
