Default New project 1992 Flareside

Hello all! Glad to have this as my first post. I just picked up a 1992 Flare Side with the 5.0 yesterday.

I will be restoring this truck and am happy that I am able to start with such a clean truck. Its a Barnyard find. Ill update this thread with my progress.

I have already dropped the front tank and will be replacing all of it. Ill do the rear next. Ive also started on the interior. Hope to have it running by the weekend.

If the cosmetic condition is any indicator of how she'll run, that will be an absolutely awesome truck.

Ive heard her about to start with starter fluid in the intake. She sounded nice. I will be adding dual exhaust with a half muffler to better hear her sweet sound.

Ok, installed the fuel tank over the weekend and got her started. I replaced both valve cover gaskets, plug wires, cap and rotor, and next are the spark plugs.

Have several engine codes I need to get a handle on.

52 - Power steering pressure switch

85 - 2 3L T/C Automatic – 3/4-4/3 Shift solenoid – Transmissions

22 - MAP (vacuum) or BARO signal out of range – MAP

41 - System lean – Fuel control

87 - Fuel pump circuit fault (check inertia switch) – Power / Fuel Pump Circuits (Ok rear tank and I know I have to replace it.)

31 - EVP – EVP signal is/was out of range – EVP

33 - ALL – EGR did not open/ respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittently – EVP EVR PFE

And this is what she looks like today.

Yours may be an exception, for some reason, but ford started switching to 3 digit codes in 91 and by 92 they were all 3 digits. I could be off a year but I think this is true. Depending on how you pulled them, manually-could give you totally different codes, with a reader-the reader just gives the codes in 2-digit format, it COULD affect what you need to be looking at.

Edit: please tell us this was Jay Leno's truck

Thanks guys. And no its not Jays truck sadly enough. I would bet it would have been in much better shape had it been.

Here is the current status

Cleared all of the codes.

52 - Power steering pressure switch = plug was off the power steering pump
33 - ALL – EGR did not open/ = bad egr valve

all other codes cleared after I manually cleared them from the computer. Bought a code reader to make life easier. This is a 1992 5.0 and its a 2 digit code system (Both with the check engine light and the code reader).

I redid the transmission.

and I am currently rebuilding the engine. (Not because I have to but because I want it to run for a long time) a few parts Ill be adding and more.
