Default 3g upgrade.

I had my truck in my Ford class as a demo of old style ignition. While we were running tests discovered they my alternator was supplying a whopping 50 amps. So I hit the local u pull it and found a beautiful 3g in a 95 t-bird. I had to pull the field wire from the factory harness and switch it with the one from the t bird. It's a direct swap into the weathertite connector. No cutting or cramping. I replaced the twin 10 gauge wires with a 4 gauge power wire and rewrapped the harness as factory. I'm looking for a mega fuse holder and a 150 amp fuse but Ill risk it for now. Alt tested good at 130 A on the bench. A little grinding on the factory mount and I had to drill out the lower bolt pivot. I replaced the upper bolt with a bolt and nut. All together about $50 and my lights are bright. Battery post read 14.75 v at idle with the factory t bird ( larger ) pulley. I'll get it into the shop next week ant get some readings from the VAT45.

Same thing when I was in college, I was the guy with the oldest vehicle and they used my truck on multiple occasions for viewing and testing the older style systems, ignitions, emissions and what not.

I've still been on the lookout for a used 130amp alt for my 4.9, since new they are over 200$ and I only get a 10$ core.

I just looked up a new alternator for a '95 Thunderbird and Advance Auto is showing the same one to also fit a '95 Mustang GT. I double checked on rock-auto, and it's showing a 130amp available, so it looks like the last gen of 5.0 Mustangs are a source too.

Thanks mirage that's a great site. It helps with a bunch of projects. Sylver with the number of different models using that alternator they aren't hard to find.
