If it runs like new, it wouldn't be getting 7mpg. Just saying!

Take it to a place like Midus and they will run the check and tell you what the code is for free. If they refuse due to the age, then do a Google search. I'm sure you could find the meaning of the codes online.

Just a word of advise,if your 16, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pay a mechanic to fix the problem (if its complex). May save you lots of time and headache.

I forgot to mention I'm 50 and don't use mechanics either.

With your OBD1, you can read the sticky at the top of the board to pull your codes. It is VERY easy to do, I was a little off put, but it is very simple, and I "jumped" it with a coat hanger.

To at least get your KOEO codes yourself takes about 5-7 minutes.

You probably have something that is causing an improper air to fuel mixture, you are running heavy and that is your MPG drop. There are many other things, but the codes will give you most of an answer. Does your AC work? if not, a broken condenser will SUCK your mileage.

i bought a scanner and i used my scanner and the codes were at the top one of them was the cannister purge solenoid failure but i dont thank my truck has that and another is egr sensor voltage to low and another was egr sensor voltage to high and it says (closed valve) my air works great still has r12 and one other code was couldnt control rpm but after the wot part of the test it idled up and down for around 10 seconds but without the tester hooked up it wont hesitate miss raise idle or anything its just like getting into a new truck except it sucks the gas down...i know people with built 302s and 40 inch tires and they get better mpg than i do

yea one side goes to a y like thing with more hoses and yea im pretty sure it goes to the black can....i cant remember for sure ill look again amd let you know but it has a sensor that plugs into it...my truck has 2 cans on it one has 2 hoses coming off one end and the other has 1 hose going to nothing and then the other attaches close to the bottom of the motor i took this one off and bent the tabs back and looked inside it seems to have a filter in it but im not sure what it does if anything it should be clogged but i ran the truck...its cold out here and i noticed it was blowin the cold smoke or whatever it is all cars do and i hooked it back up instantly and it stopped but it didnt change idle or anything and both hoses are sucking
