Question 94 5.0 xlt 4x4 run through

Ok so i just bought my first f150. Little rusty body and underneath but o well. Found a 5.0 with 107k 4x4 for $1500. That sold me. All it needs is front u joints pretty bad and a oil pan gasket. Heard that was a big pain. But my question is what could i check myself, maintenance or preventative maintenance wise, fairly easily without breaking the bank. I know i need plugs, wires, cap, coil. What about those kits they sell where they all come together? except for the coil. I heard summit brand was good for the $. Or accel has a good kit too. I dont kno anything about diffs or rear ends. I know it has the dana 44 front end hence the big 44 underneath. But someone please help me give this truck some much needed maintenance before i really start putting on some miles! Thanx!

I would check the ball joints while your in that front end. You will also want to check the wheel bearings. I had a bearing race weld itself to the spindle on this truck. Put it this way, if your tires are leaning in at the top(negative camber) you should take a day and a few hundred bucks and rebuild the front end.

+1 on this. Bad bearings/races can cause a huge headache. There's a couple different styles of retaining nuts, but you'll figure it out. Took me a little bit cause all I had worked on was 2 wheel drives. Lol.
