going to reinstall timing cover, WP etc
but i have to get the harmonic balancer on first. rented a installation tool from o'reilly, but i'm not sure how to keep the engine from rotating while i'm pushing the balancer on.
i've heard of a tdc stop tool. but it seems to be really for locating tdc, not for stopping the piston to keep the engine from turning to install a harmonic balancer.
i'm really hoping someone here remembers how they got their harmonic balancer on using the install kit (not a hammer!)
thanks!

re using the crank bolt. do you recommend getting a new one? also, what are your thoughts about using an impact wrench to install it? i'm not too certain how to do the screwdriver in the flywheel method. i will crawl under the truck this afternoon to take a look. what should i look for?

it looks like a piece of all thread that can accept an adaptor at the end which threads into the crankshaft. the the harmonic balancer on, thread that piece into the crankshaft, slide a washer on, thread on a nut, and start cranking. the nut pushes the harmonic balancer on.
