Is my starter going bad?

Is my starter going bad?
It's a 93 f-150 with the 4.9. Had a problem with it starting today for the first time. When I would turn the key to start it I would get a clicking sound behind the battery in the fender area(I think from the selenoid mounted to the fender) Is this a sign that the fender selenoid is going bad or should I replace the starter? Well it finally started and I was on my way. I would hate to replace the starter just to find out it was the $10 selenoid. Thanks for any input.

replace the Selenoid first. next time it does it to you. turn the key to the on position and as bad as it sounds, use a screw driver to link the two large bolts on the selenoid. it wont zapp you. and it should start the truck. if the starter goes right on Q and starts the truck then its the selenoid . if not then your looking at a starter problem. Hope this helps.

No Pain, No Pain!
It is most likely the starter relay/solenoid on the fender. But, if the battery does not have enough juice, it will not close the solenoid either. The solenoid is only a few bucks and can't hurt to replace it. You can also have an auto parts store check your battery for you, most will do it for free.

Well it would'nt start for me again last night. I decided to take countryboywith89s advice and had no luck starting it that way. I did get it running though, after tapping on the starter selenoid with a hammer it would turn over. Must be the starter. Do you think it would be ok to just replace the selenoid alone or should I change the starter and the selenoid together?

Wow it sucks to be you. I have heard of battery and alternator together and the solonoid and starter together, never all of them at the same time.
