Default My 1988 F150 Dual tank issue.

My 1988 F150 351 ci, EFI, auto-trans, 4X4 w/dual tanks is driving me crazy. Gas constantly migrates from front to rear and rear to front. I never know where it is going to be next. Can't figure this one out!!! Also at 8 mpg I can barley afford to drive it to the local trash dump! I bought it as a fixer up and thank goodness I have other transportation. Can someone give me some suggestions?

Probably going to be a selector valve not sealing off that is causing the fuel transfer from one tank to the other.

Also may be the check valve inside the fuel pumps. My truck is doin the same thing right now but I elimated my rear tank so it just leaks. Gettin it takin care of right now. Mine is a 92 so not sure if its the same issues. There was a recall not sure how far back it goes for the check valve tho

An 88 won’t have the same setup as a 92. It has a low pressure pump in each tank with a high pressure pump on the frame along with a selector valve. A 92 has a high pressure pump in the tanks with built in check valves and no selector valve just the selector switch on the dash.

Ok sorry I wasn't sure of that. Thanks for the correction
