mustang 5.0 ho upper intake and gt40 heads
This summer I am planning on doing my hole intake from the mustang 5.0 HO and gt40 heads.
I have a few questions, suggestions welcome to
Would i have to change my truck so it uses a mass airflow meeter for the heads and the intake to work right or could it work with out it?
also what year explorer had the gt40 heads or mustangs?
has any one changed to gt40 heads?

You might be ok with the MAP, a MAF comes into play when you start changing rockers and cam.
GT40 heads are on 96-97.5 Explorers/Mountaineers I believe and GT40p's in the latter years. I picked up some heads at my local junkyard for $90 w/o a core.
I did a GT40p, Explorer intake swap on my Mustang.
Also, the Explorer intake will flow better than the Mustang one, if you can get a hold of one for a decent price.

Biggest difference is the spark plug angle. The gt40p's angle is closer to 90 while the gt40's are angled more, like the stock Mustang heads. As far as performance, I've heard it debated to death and still haven't seen anything solid. I went with the p's since that is what I found at the junkyard. Biggest thing is to make sure the exhaust fits around the plugs, or at least gives you easy access.

Use a truck maf intake. They flow better than the mustang. Also the mustang hp lowers are based on a truck lower. Switching to maf would allow you to make mods and get better performance.
