Muffler swap?
Hey guys. What do you think about JUST a new muffler? My trucks tailpipe is brand new. 2.25". I was thinking about a louder muffler since its stock diameter, maybe a dynomax race bullet? No flomaster. Not looking for lots of drone. I like to sound good at 4500 Rpms 
other than that, it's okay for staying quiet(ish) thanks

Hooker has the maxflow muffler which flow almost like a straight pipe keeps it quiet at idle and highway speeds but opens up once you call on it.
Have them on my grandpa's 65 f100 we swapped a 86 efi motor in

Give us more idea on what you're looking for. Are you looking for more volume? how much more than stock? Do you want to hear it in the cab? Are you hoping for the same tone as you had stock? or more definition/aggression to the tone?
My experience with these trucks:
Muffler makes no difference in the tone (or very little IMO). If you just want a louder stock exhaust note you can change muffler and you'll be happy.
If you want more tone, with more growl and definition you'll need to remove the cats or replace with a high-flow cat.

I'm looking for a muffler that I can still have a conversation with going 70 down the freeway. Removing cats isn't an option because I live in CA. I would like to keep it low budget (keeping stock tailpipe). I'd like to be able to hear my 351 Windsor roar at 4500 Rpms too 
something that will sound like a V8 while being able to get out without a headache.

Ah! fair enough. I suppose it comes down to what you can stand then -- Personally I don't think these trucks are that loud. I've got a flowmaster 40 series on mine with no cats and can't even hear it on the highway in the cab. But others might disagree.
To avoid the drone you'll definitely want that straight-thru design. But if you're wanting to hear it then you might need something as small as a glass-pack.
To hear it in the cab while on highway it would have to be REAL loud outside IMO. Course i've also got dynomat in my doors.. maybe that makes the difference for me. Not sure.
EDIT: if you're really looking for a specific sound i'd say go buy 2 mufflers, one average, and one louder, and test them out. I've gone through 3 mufflers after doing a lot of research only to discover how quiet this truck can be. If you're sticking to stock piping you'll find that you may have to go with a louder muffler than you think to get the roar you want.

Maybe to many trucks?
Which engine do you have?
Personally on my 302 88 F150 I am putting a flowmaster 40 with no cats but on my brother's 91 300 I6 F150 it is quite a bit harder to decide as most of the time it sounds like a tractor.

Just for what it's worth, i replaced my Super 40 with a Super 44 this weekend. No noticeable difference at all. Literally. Luckily I didn't pay much for the 44...
I did fire up and drive the truck with no muffler (and no big cat) and it still wasn't THAT loud. Definitely derivable. These trucks (at least with the 5.8) aren't that loud with 2.25" pipe.
