Second hand headaches...
We acquired a 92 F350 Club cab dually diesel a few weeks back for 1000 less than the cost of a news trans for our 92 f350 xcab 460 dually...lol. It has a 4r70 or whatever trans and an aftermarket o/d and a Banks Sidewinder turbo unit. The Trans is a Jasper rebuiild. It was hemorraging trans fluid and the transtemp was in the 250 range....yikes. Great! Another "bargain"! After a weeks worth of frantic fluid additions to the tune of 225 in ATF( yes,225 in a week's time) I was handed the keys and politely asked to fix it or shoot it!
I got under it and there were 2 large atf coolers mounted (get this!) under the bed horizontally witha non functioning elec fan...Totally crusted with squege and grime. The previous owner routed the high pressure line to the coolers through AIR LINE and then back up to the radiator and then to the trans....(facepalm!)so he was cooling the fluid and then running it through the hot *** radiator and then back to the trans! Can't imagine why is was so hot! Had to fight with the boss about doing it right cuz the truck came from a relative who "knows his sh%& about cars.....lol) so I let him spend another 150 in new lines and clamps and the next daay it got so hot i had to drive 60 miles to Miami and tow him home in my little old 4.9 5 speed! That was the best part for me...lmfao. I waited till he went home and proceeded to rip it all out and I pulled the grill and installed the coolers where they are supposed to be....WHERE THE AIRFLOW IS! I ran it from high pressure to radiator to twin coolers(now clean) and ran the fan off of the temp sender and guess what? it hits 210 in heavy stop/ go traffic and 190 on the highway! No more fluid loss and it actually shifts correctly now....Amazing, huh?
The only point of this post is to vent about finally being able to fix it right for someone too damn stubborn to accept that it was wrong....lol. Now I need to figure out how to get the Sidewinder running because the wastegate is nonfunctional and the turbo is not applying any boost at all. This big *** truck still gets 13 mpg on diesel compared to the 4 mpg the 460 gets...Imagine what I can do with the turbo actually working....
Thanks for reading.....Peace!

Trans is an E4OD.....do yourself a favor and start hunting for a standard. Where in Florida are you located? The Sidewinder is a really nice kit and I'm jealous, my truck is still N/A. How did you come to the conclusion that it's not creating any boost at all? The guy must have been a Dodge owner since that's where the trans coolers are mounted on the older ones. Retards.

Personally, I shun slushboxes and prefer 3 pedals. Driving a manual in South Fla is a nightmare, though. 4 way lights to nowhere down here, man. The wastegate never moves and it is totally quiet.....My S charged Stang sounds like a whistlin, whining canary in comparison....None of the Banks guages work....waiting on them to email me the proper schematics so i can go through it.
Dual tanks,too....front is useless for anything but idle rpm's...lol. Next migraine to sort out...

I'm gonna drop both tanks this weekend since neither one of the fuel senders is even close to accurate. It runs empty and the guages show over a quarter tank....lol. The brake calipers are due for a rebuild and there's a really long list of stuff to fix/replace. Electrical system is rigged pretty badly, 5 relays in the engine bay and all of it is run with speaker wire! I have no clue as to what runs what...The starter spring is toast so it grinds 4 out of 5 attempts instead of actually turning the flywheel....it just goes on and on! Typical used work truck scenario. Oh yeah, the column shifter is zip tied in the Park position! no shift cable, the shifter was reengineered with a garage door opener neck that is mounted through the floor through a hole! Awesome! lmao!!!!
I have my work cut out for me with this one! All in all, though, it's solid. The thing is a veritable Tank! The stereo is nice and the Captain's Chairs are definitely a bonus. I'm dyin to get the Turbo running even though it only rates 6 psi....

Yank the bed....a crapload easier than dropping the tanks. There's nothing wrong with your sending units (and damn lucky for that), your issue is the showerhead pickups have fallen off and broken to bits. I redid mine with diesel fuel rated hose and brass tees.

THANK YOU!!
She wouldn't fire up today until we topped off the tanks! the fuel filter light was on and the water in fuel light was on! Your fix makes sense to me, but it has a full rack welded in and a welder and oxy tanks,etc..I really HAVE to drop the damn tanks...and of course, they,re FULL now! lolol
