Manual or Auto Tranny
hey guys,
I just joined the forum. Didnt know there was one for ford trucks but it looks awesome.
I have a '96 F-150 that has turned over twice (200k+ mileage). It still runs great. I know that in the near future i probably might have to overhaul the tranny. So i got to thinking.. Someone told me that manual trannys on ford trucks are the best way to go. What kind of conversion cost would i be looking at ( labor, modifications, and a rebuilt manual tranny ) to switch from a auto tranny to a manual one? Should i just stick with the auto tranny for less complication and bid for an overhaul?

No Pain, No Pain!
I think it would be easier, in the long run, to keep the auto tranny and either have it rebuilt if/when it needs it, or buy a rebuilt tranny and swap them out. Converting to a manual tranny is possible, but may be more of a headache than it is worth.
