Hello,

I'm new here so hope im goin about this the right way ne ways So I have a 1990 F150 4x4 302 5.0 v8 fuel injected automatic tranny my question I have is i'm looking for either a new / used truck or take my $10,000 limit and invest it in my 90 f150 which i just sunk about 800 in steering gear box, upper/lower balljoints, tie rods, shock/struts, wheel & hub bearings replaced, ignition*steering column components* parts, transmission filter/gasket/fluid. Not long before all that new radiator not 2 mention new hd battery....... Engine not running near as strong as it did when i first got it bought it from my cousin which just rebuilt it tranny had nothing done to it i dont think neither had the rear end ive put 150k miles on it on top of the 80k the rebuilt motor had and she dranks probably a quart every 2 wks. oil from leakage ive priced a manufactured motor crate 302 its like $4000 on average and my mechanic priced it at 5500 or so but includes 24 month warranty thats installed with new components and such cause I myself aint no mechanic I figured a bunch out as far as working on the ole truck but just feel as motor wise ill be best to let someone that knows what their doing....do it ....didnt get price a est. but im sure with another 3000 that should get the tranny and rear end replaced also idk didnt get him to quote that just motor and the rest of the $$$ for a paint/body shop bill yeah its alot or i could just buy another pickup and just have someone elses headaches which id rather not deal with when ole pinky can be like brand new help me plz im not sure what to do hope yall can sort it out i know its alot but id sure appreciate all the helpful advise i could get from yall until then Thanks 4 your time and have a good one!!!!

5500 is a lot to sink into the motor. Stop by and talk to a couple of local engine rebuilders and see what kind of pricing they throw your way. Crate motors are all well and good and very convenient but a good local shop is going to be working on YOUR motor, not just A motor. Possibly (probably) for a lot less money.
I do a lot of careful shopping around mind you, but for that kind of money, I'd have a fresh motor, transmission and diff in the old truck. You could also shop for a low mileage truck to rob the driveline out of - or one with a lower mileage rebuild.

You should be able to find a stock rebuilt long block for $1500 - $2000 at a local machine shop.

Ford racing builds a solid motor, the base 302 is about what you've got to spend.

Not to be critical of your English, it's just hard to read.

On the useful side, I agree with the rebuild.
