Default m5r2 Transmission top cover ?

I have a leak around the cover on top of the transmission. So i plan on pulling the top cover off and putting in a new gasket. Is there any surprises that i should know about before pulling it off. Like a spring or loose pins that would fall into the bottom of the tranny etc. Just trying to be prepared this time and not learn the hard way. Thanks

I'm pretty sure the gasket is rubber. Make sure the shifter is in neutral. You can pull the top cover without removing the transmission. There's a large floor plate under the carpet you can remove.

got the floor plate off already. looks like the shift forks are attached to the bottom side of the shifter plate, per the pic i just seen on ebay. Is getting those shift forks lined up and back in place a real pain or is it a fairly easy. And is that all i have to be worried about?

It goes on pretty easy as long as you don't move the forks. Just unbolt and pull. No jack-in-the-box there.

well that was easy enough. Rubber gasket still looked in good shape and all the bolts holding down the shifter cover plate were tight. Seems like the tranny fluid was leaking out of the rubber plugs in the back. Ford did not have any new ones in stock so i just gooped them up with some ultra red (didn't have black) and stuck them back in. layed down a bead of ultra red on the tranny's mating surface and re-installed the cover plate. Hope that fixes that leak. Now on to the lifter cover gasket.

Those are obsolete. Use 5/8" brass plugs.

is this an updated part? and do you have a part #? Ford parts did not tell me that the new ones would be brass. He just said that they didn't have any he would have to order them in. Or is this a 5/8 brass plug from something else that will fit in lou of the rubber ones?

I don't have a part number. My neighbor went looking for the rubber and they gave him the plugs and said that's all that's available. You can use a regular brass plug, it doesn't have to be from the dealer. Like a freeze plug.
