Default 96 f150 4.9L shuts off while driving

I have a 96 f150 4.9L 300 manual transmission…while I’m driving the truck will just shut off. I try to crank it and it just turns over but won’t fire up…I may have to sit a hour or more before it will crank back up…I’ve replaced fuel pump, ignition coil, fuel filter, ignition control module and still having the same problem…does anybody have an idea what the problem may be

After reading your attempts to resolve the issue, I would look at battery cable connections (at both attaching points of the wires), ground connections from motor/frame, crank/cam sensor, alternator. While the motor is running wiggle the wires going into the distributor in case there is a grounding issue or loose wire. Have you checked for OBD II error codes? Maybe try your vapor canister purge valve; sometimes the changing of fuel from summer/winter blends causes issues.

My truck was doing the same thing. After months of pulling my hair out I found the ignition module in the distributor was getting hot and would not create a spark until it cooled. Swapped the distributor and fixed the problem.

The ignition module is not in the distributor - the PIP is. And neither the PIP nor the module creates spark - the coil does.

Default Miss identified Sorry

Thanks for the correction. Pretty sure if the PIP is broken there will be no spark.
